M06 - Oceans as a source and sink for aerosols and related feedbacks

Convenor: Zev Levin
Co-convenors: Ilan Koren, Paul DeMott

Production of CCN and IN from the ocean and the role of aerosols like dust and pollution in affecting the ocean acidity.

The physical, chemical and biological properties of the surface of the ocean affect sea-spray formation and therefore can affect cloud microphysical processes. Clouds and aerosol in return affect energy, fresh water, mineral and nutrient fluxes to the surface of the ocean. This session is dedicated to studies related to interconnections between aerosols, clouds, and the ocean’s mixed layer. It aims in bringing scientists from all related disciplines, including cloud and aerosol physics and chemistry, atmospheric and oceanic biogeochemistry and marine ecology, together to better understand this important interface.
